WindowsMail again

This is the error I'm getting on 3 of the 4 email accounts:

The host 'pop3.gmail.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have
entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'pop3.gmail.com', Server: 'pop3.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

The pop3 address you're using seems to be incorrect. I use the
following:

pop.gmail.com
SSL Enabled, port 995

For outgoing mail, I use the following:

smtp.gmail.com
TLS enabled, port 587

W

pop3.gmail.com
Port 995, SSL

smtp.gmail.com
Port 465, SSL

Outgoing server requires authentication
Configure with full email address as username

Ensure the Gmail account's web UI settings is configured to support POP3

- click on the option I want to enable POP3 then choose your mail client

Yes. It's a zip file and I finally got WindowsMail to open and work on W-7. All the NGs work, but it wont get the email from 3 of
the email accounts. I had to use that "unlocker" program to get it to work. But I have 4 email accounts and only one will work
now in WM. I've Googled and can't find the answer on how to get all four to work.

I followed this: Open: Start Menu ==> All Programs ==> Accessories ==> Run.
Type in the following command, exactly as shown, in the Run box, or better still, copy/paste it, and then click "OK":

attrib -s -h "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" from:

http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/how-to-enable-windows-mail-app-in-windows-7.137494/ Then used the unlocker since there
was no way I cound get permissions or take control any other way.

I believe the pop3 email server name is pop.gmail.com rather than
pop3.gmail.com.

I believe the pop3 email server name is pop.gmail.com rather than
pop3.gmail.com.
For fun I double checked it at the gmail site.

They *do not* make it easy to track it down :-(

After 647 clicks, though, I now agree with you that there's no "3"
there.

The pop3 address you're using seems to be incorrect. I use the
following:
I'm using the settings right from the Google email page, the same settings
I've used for years. ??? The same settings that work in WM on the old
Vista laptop. I can get and send my email on the Vista PC with those
settings.
pop.gmail.com
SSL Enabled, port 995
In what mail program? I don't see a choice in WM to enable SSL. Where are
you finding it there?
For outgoing mail, I use the following:

smtp.gmail.com
TLS enabled, port 587
Where is the choice for TLS in WindowsMail? There are only 5 tabs in
WindowsMail and those choices aren't on any of them.

The PC is W-7, 64-bit, HomePremium.

Do you have a link to "the Google email page"?

I don't think so since there doesn't seem to be a server located at
pop3.gmail.com, or at least I can't get a response with nslookup,
ping, or telnet. What's the IP address of pop3.gmail.com?
In what mail program? I don't see a choice in WM to enable SSL. Where are

I'm talking about server settings. It's up to you to figure out how to
configure your email client.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. Those boxes are checked for SSL on the Vista PC.
I'll switch to 587 on the W-7 PC. How do I enable TLS? Right now all I see
is "This server requires a secure connection (SSL). So that is all I can
check. ButI can change the SMTP to 587.

still get the same error. But this is really weird. Sometimes the email
will go out on the 1st email account (only) and sometimes I get the error.
When I added them to WM on W-7, I copied everything exactly from WM on
Vista. All those 4 accounts have been on this Vista PC for several years and
never had a problem.

OK... I got it!!!!!!!!!! :^)))) Joy at last! There were two problems
so I'm surprised WM worked at all. First it's POP, not POP3 and second,
when the other PC is on, with WM open, it screws up WM on W-7. Hot damn! I
never gave that a thought. Two PCs trying to get on the mail server at the
same time. Maybe I can get some sleep tonight now. You guys are great. I
may never have figured this out on my own.

Eh?
Open GMail
Click on "gear wheel">Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP.Item 3 -
configuration Instructions.
That's only FOUR clicks and is quite easily found...

No, no, no! How could I?

The discussion led me to a learning opportunity, to see what gmail has
to say about itself. It's just that I have only used imap on gmail, so
it was unexplored territory.

But in spite of what Gordonbp said, it took me a bit of navigation to
find the listed settings. The 647 was a slight exaggeration, I think it
was actually under 500 clicks. The info was definitely a bit deeper in
than my usual experience with e-mail servers.

I found it in a few clicks in Google and just a few on Google's site.

Should have just copied it from my functional Google account settings

It worked here, why it didn't elsewhere only the other poster can determine that.

Thanks - but I have this nagging fear that the virtual clone of me is
*me*!

Partly because of the occasional surrealistic nature of my humor.

Good luck on the move. Having moved many times in my life, I have come
to find moving pretty traumatic :-(

I've moved a bunch, too. (Career military) I've mostly learned to
accept the fact that some things will get broken, damaged, or lost,
and there isn't much I can do about it.
