Windows Live Mesh

Has anyone use Windows Live Mesh successfully?
I have installed it, but after that it does not seem to work. I wd like to
use it as a remote control with my other computer but there do not appear to
be any coherent instructions

I used it for a short time between my four Win7 machines (it must
be installed on each and, IIRC, you have to enable remote
connections on each manually prior to being able to connect
remotely).

It seemed to work fine but I need to be able to connect to one of
my WinXP Pro machines so I went back to the built-in RDC. I
thought about trying TeamViewer but RDC does everything I need
and didn't want to (am to stubborn to) learn a new program!

Thanks, but my problem is that I cannot see what you have to do to enable
remote connections manually. There does not appear to be any button or
writing to choose this. I have another Vista computer with live mesh
installed and it seems to be OK but as you say, my other XP computer will
not join in anyway!

That's NOT what Live Mesh is for. Live Mesh is designed to securely
synchronise folders between two or more computers.

emailing files to yourself, carrying them around on a USB drive, or

Nothing about using it to remotely access another computer.



If you want to use an application to work on a computer remotely then
you cannot do better than TeamViewer IMHO.

As far as I know, all of the Live Essential programs will only
work on Win7 or Vista, they're not compatible with WinXP (MS's
way of getting you to upgrade I guess!).

In Win7 (I don't have Vista) when you open Mesh, click on Remote
(next to Status). You should see if remote connections are
allowed to that computer as well as to the other computers listed
below Connect to Another Computer (if any).

Just slightly further down the page you referenced, it states:

When I used it, it was very similar to RDC. Also, in my original
reply to the OP I suggested TeamViewer, just in my case I already
knew RDC and it does all I need.
