I plan to upgrade my Vista Home Premium OS to Windows 7 by downloading a Windows7 ISO file on a pc hosting Windows 7 Ultimate OS and then burning it to a bootable DVD.

The DVD would then be used to boot the Vista Pc and use Windows7 as the OS.

Which Windows 7 file type do I need to download?

The W7 ISO would not provide a valid license. You will need to buy a copy of W7 with an Upgrade license to go from Vista. It also matters if your Vista is 32 or 64-bit and whether you plan to install W7 32 or 64-bit.
