Win7 Backup & Restore?

C

charliec

I cannot seem to start the Backup program provided with Win7.
I go to Control Panel and click on "Backup up your Computer" and
nothing happens. What do I have to do to start the Win7 Backup
program?

Also, another question, what is a good backup program for Win7? I
have tried TrueImage Backup and did not like it as it take too much
control of the system. I just want to backup my folders and files and
be able to restore files and folders as required. I don't do a lot of
Images backups.

Thanks for any insights.

You have to click on 'Set up backup' over on the right side.

For simple backup of files and folders, (no images, etc) - -

Consider using an external hard drive of appropriate size.
Copy the folders/files to the external drive.
I won't even begin to speculate as to why the windows backup function
doesn't work with the limited information you posted.

I use Ghost for a quarterly image backup (or before a major system
change.) For weekly backups, I use Microsoft's SyncToy to copy important
files and folders. Both of the backups are to an external drive that is
normally powered OFF when not needed.

If someone already has an imgage backup program, you can use that, but the
win7 backup program works well and is free.
I use a separate partition for all my data stuff and sync with WinMerge, a
free download. I do this to an external hd, but for day to day update I
also use a memory stick, again using WinMerge.

I also use Windows7 Backup and Restore and it works perfectly. I also use
it for backing up favorites and Windows Live Mail. Initially I tested it out
by adding dummy programs which I deleted and I found that it restored them
quite simply.

I should have said that I use an external drive. Go to Control Panel >
Backup your computer (In System and Security) > 'Backup now' and in my case
it backs up onto Expansion Drive K, the progress bar of which is suitably
marked and exhibited on the 'Backup now' page.

And if you regularly back up the same set of files and folders, the easiest
way to do it is p[robably a batch file.

I am probably missing something, but I am not seeing the option to
'Setup up backup' in the Control Panel window. What am I missing?

Thanks, where do I find 'SyncToy'?

But how do I access Win7 Backup and Restore? I cannot get to it from
Control Panel - click on Backup & Restore and nothing happens?
Thanks

I do not get this screen, what do I have to do to get it to come up. I
go to Control Panel and click on Backu and Restore and nothing
happens?
Just for fun, try this

sdclt.exe /configure

Once you enter that, right click on the entry and select "Run as Administrator".

On my laptop, there seemed to be a conflict between the laptop
company backup program, and the Windows stuff. Resulting in
the associated control panels being "brain dead".
