Suddenly a Legitimate copy became -"Evaluation copy of Windows 7" ??

In February 2010 I've bought in PCW (then) shop a legitimate
copy of Windows 7 Professional which I've installed (?) probably
over the evaluation copy of Win 7 then. Now suddenly I've
experienced quite unpleasant circumstances. First the
information started to appear saying that:
"Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build 7601."
Then;
"This is an evaluation copy of Windows 7.
Backup your data because Windows 7 will stop
working in two days." and so on...
Then suddenly "Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build 7601."
went into reboot twice so far.

Could that be a bug or case of installation
of Windows 7 Professional over the Beta
evaluation copy?
.......
When I went to the "Activate" it says
that Activation was successful.
But the inscription in right bottom corner:
"Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build 7601." -
is still there.

I'd appreciate any advice or sharing experience
with me - THANKS !

Latest message of "Windows Activation" reapeared;

"This pre-release version of Windows 7 Professional will expire in 0 hours
To keep using Windows, back up your files, and then install any edition of
Windows 7 Professional."

When I activated this version I was informed:
"Activation was successful" and Windows
went working without rebooting.

No one will argue with you there - WLM is totally diabolical. All we can
do is try to talk people out of using it, or filter out all mail written
with it.

Tried it once and didn't like the non standard behaviour so went back

Any thread that has people using WLM for any post is, in my opinion,
not adhering to accepted standards, so this original question is OT
anyway... in my opinion. And that, IS another one of my pet peeves. I
promise, I'll never hijack another thread as long I as live. ::evil

You should contact Microsoft support and describe your problem.
Certain issues with the OS, should be handled for free, like
your OS being broken by a Windows Update, a Service Pack, or
if there are activation issues (such as you're having). It's
possible a recent Windows Update associated with invalidating
hacked copies of Windows, has done this to you.

If it was me (as an amateur), my options would be:

1) System Restore to an earlier date. This probably won't help,
as System Restore is probably specifically designed not to
"re-validate" an OS if a problem has been detected. So I
wouldn't bet money on this being an option at this time.
The odds of it fixing the problem, are close to zero.

2) Backup the C: partition, and run the System Update Readiness Tool.
It's supposed to have some basic consistency checking logic.
If it damages something, simply restore from your backup image.
You'd run the Windows 7 version (x86 is for a 32 bit OS install,
while x64 is for a 64 bit OS install). That tool should be able
to recognize things in the "store" that don't belong there.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

But if you want a solution faster, talk to Microsoft Support.
They take a credit card, for regular software problems, but they
should be able to support things like Windows Update induced problems,
or Activation problems, for free (as they caused them...).

Just phone them up and say "you broke my OS..." :)

HTH,
Paul

Build 7601 is the Enterprise version and not a BETA. I would back up my
data, format the hard drive and install your Windows 7 Professional.
That would probably take less time than fighting with what you have
installed now. If you still get the "Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build
7601." in the right bottom corner, whoever sold you the Professional
copy, really sold you the Enterprise Evaluation version which, btw, can
be rearmed and used for 600 days but it isn't what you think you bought.
Your reasoning is way of.
I have a legal copy of Windows7 Ultimate and it says build 7601.

Assuming that you've been using it since February 2010 (modulo installing
SP1 earlier this year): at any time since you initially installed and
activated it, have you entered a new product ID? The same binary
installation can be used for different purposes, including time-limited
evaluations, all depending on the product key entered.

Try this: open a command (CMD.EXE) window (it doesn't need privilege
elevation) and enter the command (shown in uppercase but it's
case-insensitive - and it's all on one line, and don't insert spaces where I
haven't placed them):

WMIC PATH SOFTWARELICENSINGPRODUCT WHERE (PARTIALPRODUCTKEY!=NULL) GET
DESCRIPTION,PARTIALPRODUCTKEY /VALUE

You should get two lines of output, looking like this:

Description=Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, XXXX
PartialProductKey=kkkkk

where "XXXX" will identify what type of license was most recently installed.
One candidate for that will be "TIMEBASED_EVAL channel".

and "kkkkk" will be the last five characters of the product ID currently
being used.

As an experiment, try re-entering the product ID from the package you
purchased and repeat the activation procedure. If this doesn't solve your
problem, re-run the WMIC command shown above; if the description still says
"TIMEBASED_EVAL" and the PartialProductKey matches the last five characters
of the product ID you entered, then there's a possibility that you were sold
an evaluation copy. Call Microsoft's support center about this; they can
confirm if your product ID is in fact for an evaluation only.

Does it have it in the right hand lower corner with x days to go?
Enterprise and Ultimate are basically the same build so of course, your
Ultimate copy would be the same.
Yes it's in the right hand lower corner because I put it there with
Ultimate Tweaker and no it doesn't have x days to go. It's a legal copy.

Tried and found it just messed up newsgroups so went back to the 2009
version and will never upgrade again.

It it isn't broke don't fix it. Seems MS decided to break WLM 2011 on
purpose. Really no one could be as daft as those that wrote that version.

Sound like you have the Windows 7 disk to bought legit. If so reinstall
it and format your hard drive. Then after install antivirus (Windows
Essential Security will do)Activate your copy. Then proceed to run
Windows update. It will include a tool that will certify your copy is
genuine.

Some of the "evaluation" copies caused this to occur. The last time I
ran into this, it was caused by some registry entries.
Other than hunting down the entries, and editing them, the common
solution was to save the user's data, wipe clean and reinstall with the
genuine copy.
A similar problem occurred with MS Office. Evaluation copy supplied with
many new computers had to be uninstalled prior to install of the full
version, or the evaluation copy persisted.

Another problem may have to do with win 7's developer's "test mode"
(I generally used retail versions for development, since that's what the
end result must work on.)
