So now we can run Vista Programs in Win7?

D

DanS

No kidding.
A real flop....150 *million* installs.
Poor Microsoft.
Seeming as the last count that MS posted was 180 million in
July 2008, and then there was 15'ish more months before 7 went
on sale, what happened to the 30 million more they claimed in
July 2008 and all the other licenses sold in the 15 months
after that ?
Some idiots confuse a few whiney assholes with an actual
failure.
It was a technological failure at launch time and needed two
service packs to finally become stable.

Forced sale through OEM channels..........that is why the
sales were high. If the OEMs stop selling XP and only sold
Vista, how could it not be commercially successful ?
(Rhetorical.)

That explains just about everything you say.

You said it, not me.
No, what explains everything I say is dumbasses with lame-brain opinions
posting as fact.

You're another Vista basher, no?

And yet, numbers don't back you up.

Unless, now 200,000,000+ installs is a failure?

I mean, compared to your 12 library installs of ubroketoo, I suppose 200
million is nothing.

Get lost, loser.

Go do some spell-checking.
Make some coffee, too.

The disadvantage, of course, is that you have to have a license for
the copy of XP that you install. If you have a spare license, that's
all well and good. Otherwise, you might as well upgrade to Win7Pro /
Ultimate and use XP mode.
Not if you have an oem XP disk from a PC you no longer use - which is
the case for most people who move to W 7.

DanS

Why are you bringing up a Linux distro ? Nobody ever mentioned
Linux at all in this thread.

Vista is not Linux.

You have no clue as to what OS I'm using.
I suppose 200 million is nothing.
Yeah, OK, Vista's a great OS, and was from day one.

You won.

How's that?

Is that what you wanted to hear ?

I did.
Vista is not Linux.
I know.
Vista actually works.
You have no clue as to what OS I'm using.
Don't care.
I notice you gotta put Xnews w/WINE to appease the Lintards.

Yeah, OK, Vista's a great OS, and was from day one.
Told ya.
Never a doubt.
How's that?
A first for correct statements on your part.
Is that what you wanted to hear ?
I still can't hear you.
Your newsreader must do things mine doesn't.

D

DanS

Don't care.

Lintards.
Yes, the Lintards, of which, I am not.

Booting to either OS, I still use the same copy of XNews, so it
says that regardless of what OS it is.

My XP was an upgrade disc which means that installing it I would also
have to insert the previous Windows version (ME in my case,
unfortunately) and I would hate to go through that thing again. Not to
mention all the SP-s and other upgrades that went into it since then.
Brrr!

My XP is the same way, prove that you are eligible to own the update. M$
will leave no money behind. I hate having to get out my 2000 Pro every
time I change my configuration. My real question is, Is there any way to
make XP think it is the king of the hard drives when it is not in the
primary master?? I am juggling DOS, yes DOS, and Ubuntu Linux, XP and 7,
so I would like to put both XP and 7 on one of my secondary drives.

And by the way. I didn't lose an argument.

I stated the accepted perception of Vista, even admitted by
Microsoft and Balmer himself, and echoed around the web on
1000's of blogs, and then chose not to say anything more about
it, because both you and that other tool are narcissistic
wastelands.

So I don't bother.

At least at one time Death was able to carry on some sort of
semi-intelligent discussion/debate, but now he's become just a
carbon copy of you....but better at being you than you are at
being you. At least he/she/it can come up with new material.
You just keep repeating the same things over, and over, and
over, and over.........

(No panties in a bunch, no under my skin, just stating an
opinion.)

Will this improve VISTA in WIN 7 compatibility update
improve WIN 7's compatibility with Hardware Devices that work OK
in Vista but not W7 ??

I stated the accepted perception of Vista, even admitted
Deceptively put.
Ballmer stated Vista tried too much at once.
And, after the release of Windows 7.
Sounds like PR.
Doesn't sound like an admission of "it sucked" as you would
like to portray.

Vista runs fine on decent hardware.
Period.
Yes, it does now, after two SPs. The point was, the perception
that it sucked because of the early problems with the 'gold'
release. It doesn't matter that some of it was third-party
mfgs fault for not being ready for the driver model and
security changes, but ordinary people see it as a MS problem.

I keep saying that all of the experiences I had with the
initial releases of XP, used both at home, and deployed, as I
was working IT at that time at an engineering company of about
100 people, and 200 workstations, went very smooth, with few
problems. Most NT based drivers worked, and the useability and
stability (mostly the Win98 boxes) over the Win98 &
NTWorksation OS's we used was a huge plus.

A complete 180 to that was the release of Windows ME. I
upgraded, and within 1/2 hour, I knew ME wasn't were it was
at.

And Vista was similar. Breaking hardware drivers, programs
that weren't 'compatible', and UAC that wasn't very flexible.
It's all a perception.

I wrote a utility program for a company I worked for to
configure the hardware we mfg'd. There's a splash screen when
the program is opened. I hate splash screens myself....it's
just a waste of time. The screen just sits there, and the
program does nothing for 3 seconds. So I added a progress bar
to the splash screen. The screen still sits there for 3
seconds, doing nothing, but there's a nice progress bar that
counts down your 3 seconds of nothing until the program loads.

The perception is, that it takes the program 3 seconds to
load, but the reality is, it loads virtually instantaneously,
but I want you to look at the splash screen for three seconds
while I flash subliminal messages pushing our products on you
that are not visible to the conscience mind.

Its all perception.

I know many people still running it, no problem.
.....after 2 SPs.....
The ones whining bought a $450 laptop on sale,
True....

after saving
for 6 months, and got what they usually get... poor
quality.
(which is just taking another shot)....but for many that
aren't computer saavy, then just expect it o work. Like buying
a car, you just expect it to work.

<snipped>

Is there a Win 7 NG you two are not in?
Is that a trick question ?

I know of one Win7 'newsgroup'.

Therefore, as far as I know, I am in every Win7 group.

......I stand corrected......it looks like there's two Italian
Windows7 groups, and a Netherlands one (at least on Giganews),
so to answer your question more accurately now, yes, there are
three Win7 groups (out of 4) that I am not in......

microsoft.public.it.windows7
it.comp.os.win.windows7
and alt.nl.os.wondows.windows7

......and....looking at my 'Sent' folder, prior to today, I
made a post in this group yesterday, the 24th...and before
that, it was June 8.

No, it's not a trick question.
Then it was answered.
Yeah, somewhere where I
don't have to watch you two at each other's throats again.
Then don't read them....I'm not forcingyou too, but, as I said
the other day, I barely made any posts in the last month, and
for the last nearly two months, I think it was, I was completely
ignoring the Franker, so since I don't recall your posting name
here before, I don't have any clue as to what you're talking
about.
