Setting Replay Option in Windows Media Player

I'm using a 2010 version of WMP and when I click the button for "Turn
repeat on" it does not repeat the file; it simply moves the next file
in sequence. What's wrong here?

Nothing, see this bit from the Media player web site

"In Windows Media Player, items that you play appear in the list pane in
Now Playing mode and in the Player Library. You can change the order in
which the items play by turning on shuffle, which will make items play
in a random order. You can also choose to play the items repeatedly.
When you turn on repeat, all items in the list pane will play once and
then begin playing again. You can also turn on both shuffle and repeat
at the same time. It's not possible to shuffle or repeat DVDs."

Bob,

Thanks for your reply but unless I'm confused by the "terminology", I
can't get the selected (current playing) file to repeat! The "repeat"
icon is highlighted, but it will not repeat and goes on the next file!

You said "moves to the next file". Well, that means you have a
playlist of more than 1 item. Read the operational description again,
especially the part that says:

When you turn on repeat, all items in the list pane will play once
and then begin playing again.

Notice the word "all". If you have 1 item in the playlist, "all"
items repeated will repeat that 1 item. If you have 10 items in the
playlist then all 10 play in each repeat (loop). The *playlist* is
getting repeated.

The only thing confusing about the "terminology" is that WMP doesn't
do what YOU want: repeat a single item from a multi-item playlist.
The repeat function works on the playlist, not on items within it.
Repeat works on the selected object. Your selected object is
apparently a playlist, not one item.

What happens when you right-click on one item in your playlist and
click Play from the context menu (instead of clicking the Play [All]
button that plays the entire playlist)? You're trying to repeat on
one item in the playlist, not repeat by using Play All for all items
in the playlist.

Create a new playlist (e.g. Single)
- drag a single song into the play list, enable repeat, then play the
song.
If you wish another song to repeat drag a new one in, and the old out.

OK, I created a "new list" and got it to work but I was hoping to
repeat just like the CD on a car DC player - just press "Repeat" and
it replays! Thanks for the suggestions!

Bill,
Thanks for the feedback and understanding the purpose and limitations of
WMP's 'Repeat' option.
