Seems that I am down a hole :-(

Hello Experts,

I have come across the barrier :-( - of an infant.

I made a scan of a small leaflet 6"x8" and it was on an A4 glass sheet
of my printer. I have put the image into my computer and it widened
correctly to A4 width but there is much space above and below the image.
I found that the leaflet stayed at A4 width.

I have tried with a few programs to clip out the image but I can't do
it. Of course, I could print it and then clip off the extra. What simple
program could I use? Normally, I have no problems cutting out a section
of an picture.

In my computer the few progs I have been using for this are:
PhotoFiltre, Picture Viewer, Photo Viewer, Irfanview, etc.

What program would be easiest and simplest for this?

Regards to All :)

What printer model?
Did you save it as an image file?
If so, in Irfanview, open the image, with the mouse left click and drag
a border around what you want to keep, then choose crop from the edit
menu.

Have you tried rotating the image? Or, printing in landscape.
It sounds like the longest dimension of the leaflet is horizontal as
scanned, and you don't like the size as printed.
The printer's printing options can help or hurt, and just about any
decent photo or publishing program can do what you want.

Remember that a scanned image can be scaled for printing in the photo
programs, the scanning options, or even the printer options. For
scanning, I prefer to use Viewscan instead of the scan programs included
with most multifunction printers.

Some of the simpler "free" photo programs have clip and cut options,
With shift, alt, or control keys used to reverse the default from cut to
clip.

To me, it's a matter of spending the time and effort to see what the
capabilities of the programs you have are, rather than trying to find
the "best". Everyone and almost every program tends to do things just a
bit differently, and the best for one may not be for another.

Oh, dear :-(

I just realized that the problem is due to the square sized places where
the images are to be placed. That gave a blank band on top and
the same one below. I have been working too hard recently :-(

Now I'm embarrased, but thanks to you Mick.

Thanks for coming back to tell us, though; it's always useful to see
traps that have caught others. I presume you're putting the images into
predefined places in another document (or whatever), and whatever you're
using to produce that document defaults to (or only offers) scaling to
fit.

Thanks Charlie,

You gave some interesting points. Have a great holiday :)
