Remote UserName & Password

Win7 Pro on two PCs in the same WorkGroup on a Home LAN.

In Windows Explorer I see the other PC by the name I gave the PC.
If I click on the name I get a request to enter a UserName and
Password.
But the remote PC has no user name and password for bootup user as it
boots directly to the desktop. Both PCs are like that.

1) where and how do I turn off the remote asking or is it the local PC
asking for this?

2) where and how do I set the username and password if i want to use
this feature?

3) there is some other feature between Win7 PCs that allows
interaction. what is this and where can I find info on setting it up
and using?

Thank you.

Control Panel>User Accounts>Manage Accounts to set passwords.
Remote Desktop access requires user/password - no way around
that AFAIK.

As you say workgroup rather than homegroup (which I know
nothing about), the easiest thing is to set them all
up with the same user name and password. Once you do that,
you will be able to access files on any of them, from any of
them, using Windows Explorer (after you have shared the drives
or folders you want visible on the network) without being asked
credentials. Right-click a drive or folder to set sharing
options.
