A better question is why you think you need PAE? Physical address extension will not increase the amount of system memory your PC can use, nor will it remedy any memory issues you might be experiencing.

PAE is a technology designed for a 32-Bit system. There is no practical application for it in a 64-Bit system

PAE (physical addresse extention

Thank you for your answers. The reason why I asked is because of the following:

OS name MS Windows 7 Home Premium
Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600
Other OS None
System type x64-based PC
Processor Interl Core 2 cpu 6600 @ 2.40 GHz 2 Cores 2 Logica
Bios version 2.4 ( has been upgraded to the newest)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 3.00 GB
Available Physical Memory 1.86 GB
Total Virtual Memory 6.00GB
Available Virtual Memory 4.64 GB
Page File Space 3.00 GB
MB Asus P5B Deluxe
Graphic Card NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GTX
DVD Pioneer
Hard Disks 2 HD 320 GB each
Display 2 Screens

I find the difference between the Physical memory installed and the Available physical memory so great, ie 4.00GB and 1.86 GB that I suspected something was wrongly setup. Would anyone say given the details above that it is normal?

I must add that the computer appears to behave normally.

It's probably an issue with the chipset that you're using. The P965 doesn't behave very well with 4GB of memory installed. Try enabling the "memory remap" option in that board's BIOS and see what happens.

PAE (physical address extention)

I just went to the Bios and did the remapping as you suggested. I gained memory. Here the new readings:

Installed PM (RAM) 4 GB
Total Phy.Memory 4 GB a gain of 1 GB
Available memory 2.87 GB a gain of 1 GB
Total virtual Memory 8.00 GB instead of 6 GB
Available Virtual Mem 6.74 GB instead of 3.74 GB

The available physical memory is still not as much as I would have hope for but I am glad of the 1 GB gain and I will leave it as is.

Thanks to everybody for their helps.
