I get that a lot. I've given up trying to explain why I giggle to
myself so much.

That's possibly better than my problem: I often have to say "that was a
joke, Sam!" - and even that doesn't always help...

On the other hand, I have a friend who has been heard to say to her
husband, "what Gene just said was a *joke*". I like her a lot. (OK, I
like him too.)
