Moving a folder from desktop to My Documents

Win 7 (64bit)

I seem to no longer be able to move any folders from the desktop to My
Documents. Drag and Drop or cut and paste come up with a box that says

"Could not find this item. This is no longer located in
C:\Users\Steve\Desktop Verify the items location and try again".

something simple I expect.

Thanks for any replies.

Press F5 and that will refresh the Desktop. You'll see that it moved on
the first attempt. I don't have W7, so don't know the cause, but I have
seen that happen a couple of times using Team viewer on W7 machines.
There should be an option to have the Desktop automatically refresh.

I have the problem too, intermittently. A reboot usually fixes it for a
little while. I don't have the DontRefresh key they talk about in that
post anywhere in my registry. Never did, and I've looked heaps of times.
Win 7 Pro 64 bit here on a Toshiba Portege R830 Laptop with an SSD.
one of life's little frustrations as it crops up when I'm at my busiest.

Another thing I have found is it won't let me rename a folder. Have just
discovered but may have always been the case, it will let me rename,
drag and drop, cut and paste a folder but only after I have had the
warning box ever time and I click retry.

Windows won't let you rename any folder or file that is already open.
Close any programs that might be using the file or folder and try again.
With certain files you have to "Take Ownership of the File" before you
can alter it. Taking ownership involves going through a certain, and in
my view unnecessary ritual, thanks to MS!--

By chance, have you done any tweaks to disable or hide your Library
folders? That is known to cause the problem you're having.

Actually, yes I have. Will have a look into that. I didn't want the
"library" thing, so I used something or other (a while ago though) to
either remove or hide.

Yep...... Thanks very much. That was what was causing the issue

No problem. You're at least the third person to report that behavior
so it was an easy guess. It also happened to me (before I realized
that I actually wanted to use the Libraries rather than hide them).

Reports about problems (maybe including the current one, I forget) are
what kept me from disabling the Libraries.

Since I (so far) have a different attitude than you about Libraries, I
just removed all the folders from them, which (I hope) avoids such
problems. Of course it doesn't really hide all manifestations of
Libraries from my oh-so-sensitive eyes :)

You're right to be careful about what you see. Like Oliver Wendell
Holmes said, "The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger
ideas, never returns to its original size."

It's a one-way street, you won't be able to unring the bell, and all
that. :)
