No hanging issues here using FF 3..6.9. If you're having problems it could be caused by an addon. Disable them and start enabling one by one to find the culprit.

Hello Drivhardd,

Hanging issues may be due to FF out-of-process plugins container. Go to about:config - type "dom.ipc" (minus quotes) and change the value of these 4 preferences from true to false, by double-clicking on each of them:

dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nptest.dll

Now, restart FF and see if that doesn't help to alleviate or reduce hanging issues.

In case you're wondering what each preference pertains to:

dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll (Microsoft Silverlight)
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll (Apple QuickTime)
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Adobe Flash)
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nptest.dll (NPAPI test plugin)

This article describes the plugin-container problem: How to Stop Firefox plugin-container.exe Process?

This article outlines function of the plugin-container: Plugin-container and out-of-process plugins
