Firefox 3.6.12 Java Problems?

J

James Chen

I'm not sure if this is a Java problem but it's definately related to Firefox
3.6.12 under Windows 7 64 bit.

If I go to YouTube, I cannot comment on any video. The box is gray and when I
type in it the letters are gray as well. Also there is no "Post" button.

Additionally, if I hit the drop down near my name, I get nothing and also
when I try to close the big advertisement box that appears, I cannot do that
either.

I cannot get to my account settings with Firefox either.

Both Opera and Internet Explorer work perfectly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Java is a programming language that creates applications that get displayed
on a website.

Javascript is a programming language used to enhance various features not
associated with html.

There is no internal reference in Firefox to Java. But there is one for
javascript.

I would suspect that it is a page problem. Or you may need to be logged in
properly to access that feature.

Thanks to all for the help!
Safemode or clearing privacy, disabling addons and so forth did not help so I
backed up my Bookmarks, passowrds etc and totally removed firefox, including
personal settings. Then I downloaded a fresh copy, installed it and NOW IT
WORKS !!

Looking at the install date for the original copy, it seems to coincide
approximately to when I started getting the failures so something must have
gone amok with the upgrade.

Thanks again!

I've seen this happen if the Firefox "Remember The Passoword For
This Site?" bar is hidden and you don't respond to it because you
don't see it.
I'm not sure what causes it but you will get the exact same
problem with javascript and some sites that use it.

Thanks for posting how you solved it.

PS: I've had problems with FF before and it seemed that if I just
uninstalled it (keeping my BMs etc) and reinstalled it, it would work. This
has only happened a couple of times in the last 3 yrs. I use Win2000Pro.
