My laptop with XP used the external monitor as extended workspace. W7 only uses the extra monitor and ignores the laptop's monitor. It is a old Acer and appears to run my W7 ultimate OK except for this limitation. Lotsa new ways to do old stuff - big learning curve. Wow!

Hi PaulH - Welcome to the site :ciao:

What options do you have if you press "Windows logo + P"?
Do you have an option for Extending your desktop after doing this?

Holding the key with the windows logo and "P" has no result. But when I get to "screen resolution" it only shows one monitor - clicking "detect" has no result.

Yes, but no help. And XP never needed this - it automatically recognized that 2 monitors were available. I also went into bios and tried both modes - "auto" is the default.

Sounds to me that the Video Drivers may not be setup correctly

Did you install the video drivers for your specific Acer?
Or did Windows Update detect your Video Card?
