Downloads do not finish completely

Similar problem--trying to update Java and AdAware. The updates seem to download until the last 1% or so (88.1MB out of 88.7) and they stop. The progress bars look like they're still working but never get that last bit. No error messages, using 7/64 and we keep the machine cleaned out and mal-proofed. Anyone have an idea?
