Thanks, JT. I was wondering if this was an install over the top of an earlier bnuild before RTM. It was a known error in some builds.
Do you know how it was installed?

When my Laptop died my Brother gave me his last build (only a few months old) as he was just about finished his latest (i7 - Crossfire), Windows 7 was clean installed to a new Hard Drive (Disk 0 partition C - 100gb)

This is weird. Maybe it's a copy of explorer in a backup... Though why on your HD?

The reason you have 2 JT (BTW HI ) is reading this thread at some point your brother had quite a bad infection that disabled Explorer, and he or someone knew how to rebuild from the system disk (in XP it was called shadow copy) it just gets a different name in Windows 7, but after the rebuild the backup should have being deleted .... so right click on the backup and delete / reboot and explorer will be fine
