Hello again Experts,

Recently I bought that wierdo computer Advent. It has the Win7 Home
Edition and I am having problems getting my 4 year-old Pixma printer to
work with it.

I came across this URL:
http://driverboost.com/lp/printer/update/canon-drivers.php
that seems to be offering software for the Pixma.

This is what is has to say:

"DriverBoost resolves all your printer driver problems quickly, and
safely in just a few clicks of the mouse.
Latest Version: Canon Drivers
Download Now
McAfee Secure - Tested Daily

I am a bit suspicious of this. Has anyone succeeded in getting this
problem solved?

Recently I downloaded and installed a program that seemed to be free
but, after installaton, I had a popup bill for $39. I ripped it out.

TIA

You don't say what your problem is, so it's not possible to answer
that.

Anyway, would you need or trust this extra program to do what you
can easily do for yourself? The latest Canon driver for this device
will only be available directly from Canon themselves:

MP170 MP Driver Ver. 1.11 (Windows 7)
10/20/2009

This "Driverboost" program looks bogus. That claim at the top of
the page, "We Highly Recommend This Download" implies that it's
endorsed by McAfee, but I seriously doubt it. And there's no
need to allow it to scan daily for drivers that were last updated
a year and a half ago, and may never be updated again.

I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10-foot pole.

Sorry about that Nil. It would not print or copy or do anything else.

Out of curiosity I installed Driverboost and, as I suspected, there was
a bill when it finished. I removed it from the computer and, very
fortunately, you gave me the solution. My Pixma is now working great.

Thanks again for your help. :)
