Recently my computer has been freezing up a lot and I have to hit the restart button for it to work again. No blue screen though. But today I got my first blue screen error. It happened so suddenly and then restarted itself before I could even read what it was saying on the screen. I am able to log back into Windows normally. No BSOD yet.

First the random freezes and now the BSOD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050033
Arg3: 00000000000006f8
Arg4: fffff8000308bec0

See, I told you the BSOD might actually help. The BSOD experts can see all your out-dated drivers in the dump and make solid recommendations how to stabilize your system.

Yes, the interaction of AV programs can be a huge cause of problems.

Thanks for the responses.

I have uninstalled Zone Alarm.

I have uninstalled SUPERAntiSpyware.

When I go to Device Manage to try and update Realtek and WD Storage, it tells me that they are already up to date.

Microsoft does not always know the most current drivers and when you use the method you did it is relying on Microsoft.

The latest Realtek drivers can be gotten HERE

Not sure about the WD as what I find on their site says W7 will find them automatically; hopefully cybercore knows.

My experience with the device manager has been it never updates my current drivers, not even once. The latest Realtek is fall 2010, and there's got to be an update for WD:

Update Realtek Audio:

RTKVHD64.sys Tue Oct 06 06:51:17 2009

Update Western Digital WD External Storage:

wdcsam64.sys Wed Apr 16 04:39:08 2008

To update WD is a must really.

I have updated Realtek driver. As for WD I only use it as a 2nd backup so I only have it turned on once in a while. Do I still need to update the driver?

Good news is, computer has not frozen at all today.

Thanks.

Watch for the freezes if they occur only while the WD is connected - in this case you know the cause. If it freezes randomly regardless of the external drive, then you have these possible causes:

1. RAM - must be set exactly according to its specified requirements, see them on the RAM package or visit manufacturer's site for details. CPU-Z "memory" and "SPD" tabs will show your current settings.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

2. In case a RAM stick is defective it must be replaced. Memtest sometimes detects errors, sometimes has to be run twice and with each stick separately. If you run it, run it 10 passes overnight:

https://www.w7forums.com/memtest86-memory-testing-t9067.html

3. Power Supply can be the cause too.

Computer has been running smoothly for the past few days so I'm guessing uninstalling ZA and SuperAntiSpyware helped. No freezing or BSOD. Yay!

Thanks guys.
