Bad BitDefender Antivirus Update Hobbles Windows PCs

Nothing in that article surprises me in the least. I have had more
update problems than any AV or Maleware application has identified and
have always said MS update is more of a failure then a fix for
anything. I currently turned it off and will learn to live without it
and see what fails due to that decision. I have yet to read where
anyone has suffered from not installing the "security" updates for
one.

I think you should read the article again because the problem is not
with Msft updates but with Bitdefender.

As for turning off Windows Update you are the one asking for troubles.

Can you give me any person examples? Doubtful you can. I had a .net
update fail and hang my system for hours resulting in a forced shut
down that required a complete reinstall as there was no repair option
or any other fix anywhere to be found. Try Google and see how many
have had similar problems and then tell me about it. More problems
with updates then problem solved by them.

Sorry but I have three machines setup to auto update (two Win7 and one
Winxp) and never had any problems with them updating even with the
multiples of .net updates which seems to be happening quite often.

Completely ridiculous, but I think you already know that.

The hundreds of millions of people who aren't having your problems
don't go posting about it on a regular basis, so Google isn't likely
to show much. The people who post are the few with problems, and it's
a safe bet that "WU problems" can always be traced back to something
else.
