Another Win7 Question -" Newbie" ?

C

charliec

New installation of Win7. When I go to "Computer" and look at files
in the folders, most of them do not have the type displayed (ie -
filename (.xxx), the file extension is not shown. What do I have to
change in "Computer" to have the extensions shown as well?

I tried looking around in Computer sources, but could not find the
answer.

I know! A simple question, but I am trying to learn a lot in a short
timeframe - please bear with me :)

Open up Windows Explorer (File Manager).

Tools > Folder Options > View.

Uncheck the "Hide Extensions For Known File Types" box.

Click OK.

Basically the same as older Windows OS, and uses the
same kind of defaults. Just a matter of finding the
traditional menu, amidst the visual clutter of Windows 7.

Ok, one more question. In WinXP, when logging into various sites, ie
with username, you type in the start of the user name and the login
page would display previous usernames with the typed in letters. The
previous ones are not being displayed in Win7, so, there is probably a
switch I need to turn on. Can you possibly point me in the right
direction?

Thanks again

If using IE8 or 9, try enabling Forms and/or Usernames/Passwords (in the Auto Complete Settings)
- Note: it may not work on all web sites

IE > Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete/Settings

I looked at that and "Username and Password on Forms" is already
checked. I went ahead and clicked "Asked me before saving passwords"
as I do not want it to auto save passwords!

Anything else I should look at? - the sites I am concerning had this
auto complete history in WinXP.

I would think that depends on your browser and maybe your browser cookie
settings. It's not handled by Windows.

And some sites might not do that. Are these all sites you used to visit
in XP?

I really can't help beyond those remarks, since it's not a problem that
I have seen in my Windows 7.

As noted, all sites don't support the browser's ability to auto-complete a field.

If you told us what sites these might be...someone might chime in...
" Nope that site doesn't support a browser auto-complete setting"

i.e. as others have noted...its not a Windows but browser related.
