3 repeating updates

E

Ed Cryer

KB2760411
KB2760583
KB2760588
all for Office 2007.

I installed, they appeared again for update, I installed again and Win7
took them; showing twice in update history. They're still there, though,
asking to be installed.

Anybody else having this problem?

Did you check the Windows Update history, to see what happened to them ?
The last time I checked my history, it was a mess, with "Pending" things,
"Failed" things and so on.

Have you tried installing them manually (find the KB article, download
the file, install) ?

Windows Update uses a lot of the same concepts, as clearing plugged plumbing.

Yes and I don't have Office 2007 installed and never did, so I just
right click and hid them until I hear that the problem is fixed.
If I don't hear anything they will stay hidden forever.

Yes, I had the problem, and "hid" them as well.

Everything looks ok apart from this recent trio.
I'm following Leala's advice for now.

Yes, me too. The updates were installed correctly the first time. I
reinstalled them after the first time, figuring there was a problem
with the install. After the second time Update asked me to install
them, I checked and found them installed twice without an error. The
next time it asked to install them, I just hid them.

By the way, will installing them twice be a problem?

I shouldn't think so. I'm waiting for MS to correct the situation before
I do anything. I've run Word and Excel, and they seem fine. If I tried
tinkering I might mess something up, or work against whatever MS do.

Oh yes: KB2760411 and KB276058 are giving me the most trouble; I
think they're installed about 6 times! Think I'll use system
restore...

Many people are having this problem in forums. MS knows about it. :(

In a statement sent to Softpedia this morning, Microsoft confirmed that it's
indeed investigating the issues caused by KB2760411, KB2760588, and
KB2760583 updates, but offered absolutely no workaround on how to deal <#>
with the problem until a fix is released.

"We've received reports of some customers experiencing issues when deploying
some of September's Office-related updates. We are investigating this issue
and will act accordingly, to help ensure that our customers are protected,"
Dustin Childs, group manager, Microsoft Trustworthy Computing <#>, said in a
statement.

Are MS going downhill? I seem to have the same problem. A week or so ago
it was an update that was NOT installing itself. Now repeated installs.
What the hell's going on?

I thought it might restore the system to before those pesky
updates, but no such luck. Since they show as installed, I've
hidden the update notifications for them.

If you have a restore point made before the updates (and you should have
one because MS update takes one before doing its stuff), then that
should indeed restore your system to before the pesky updates. If you
did the install 6 times then you'll have 6 restore points. The earliest
is the one you want.
However, the several installs appear to cause no clashes, so you don't
need to put yourself to the trouble. Just keep the notifications hidden
until we hear from MS.

No, but there are supposed to be problems _again_ with these updates:

- MS13-067 (SharePoint Server); KB2834052
- MS13-072 (Office); KB2845537
- MS13-073 (Excel); KB2858300
- MS13-077 (Windows 7); KB2872339

I only have the latter installed, but it's not giving me any problems.
But I always create an image of my C: drive /before/ running Windows
Updates.

Turns out I didn't go back far enough; but since I've installed a
program with add-ons since my last restore I won't bother for
now. And I only have PowerPoint Viewer 2007 on this computer; if
I could uninstall it I could probably get rid of all those Office
2007 updates but it only gives me the choice to repair it.
