Where is "Search" and "Run" and...

I am brand new to Windows 7 and reasonably computer literate, but this has been pretty frustrating.
Where is the "Search" function now? It used to be on the start menu.
Where is the network connections menu?
Where is the "Run" function?

These are not my only problems, but it would help to know these.

I also tried to return it to a classic type view according to the instructions in the forum and all it did was twice add a "programs" menu to the right side of the task bar. Anyone know how to get rid of these?

Hi ericawsc - Welcome to w7forums

Right Click taskbar and select Properties.
Goto Start Menu tab and select Customize.

From the list you can enable options for the Start Menu.

I got rid of the extra "program" menus on the task bar. Hurray!
I got "run" into the start menu
got "networks" back into the start menu

But I can't get "search" back onto the start menu. When I go to Start Menu/customize, the search appears to be already checked. Nothing I do there puts the search function back where I can use it. I don't even know how to access that function without it being on the task bar.

More assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Click the Start Menu and the search box is all the way to the bottom, directly above the Start Menu Orb just left of the shut down options.

Are you suggesting you don't have this search box in the Start Menu?

If search does not work you may need to check and see if it is enabled.
go here - Control Panel >> Programs >> Programs and Features
or here - Control Panel >> All Control Panel Items >> Programs and Features

then look to the left for "Turn Windows Features on or off"
scroll to the bottom and make sure Windows Search has a check in the box.
