I need to get the Windows 7 video driver for an eMachines M2105 laptop. I have downloaded the XP driver provided with the eMachines website, but is says Incorrect OS when installing it. The audio driver did, however, work just fine. Windows Update is not finding anything. Can anyone offer some help?

Thanks.

I can't seem to find which model graphics card that laptop has - it's probably an 845/855GM though. If compatibility mode doesn't work when trying to install the provided drivers, you could use this tutorial and see if it works:

Good luck!

Hi mollydoggy1971 - Welcome to w7forums

The link below is the Chipset for your Laptop.
I am sorry to report you will not be able to use all Windows 7 features with that computer.

The Microsoft Windows 7* operating system (OS) supports two different graphics driver models: the Windows* Display Driver Model (WDDM 1.0 & 1.1) and the older Windows* XP Driver Model (XPDM). WDDM drivers provide the 3D graphical user interface experience to users. XPDM drivers provide an interface that visually resembles the Windows XP user interface and do not support Windows 7 OS premium features such as the Microsoft Aero* user interface.

Only XPDM drivers** are available for the following older Intel® graphics controllers:
  • Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family
  • Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family
  • Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller
  • Intel® 82852/82855 Graphics Controller
  • Intel® 82845G Graphics Controller
  • Intel® 82830M Graphics Controller
  • Intel® 82815 Graphics Controller
  • Intel® 82810 Graphics Controller

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I wish I'd read the third post before doing the steps in the second post. It would have saved me some hassle. LOL Oh well, live and learn. Perhaps I'll roll back to Vista on the laptop and buy a newer laptop. Another excuse to spend money. I don't know if I'm happy or sad. LOL
