Hi

First time on here so hi everybody, small problem with W7 and USB drives, up to the last couple of days everything has been fine but now when I attach a USB hard drive of any description the drive does not appear in windows explorer but it is shown the safe to remove hardware icon in the system tray, any ideas?
I have tried the drives in a couple of USB ports with no difference, also they are fine on other PCs

cheers

Hi Jim Godfrey - Welcome to w7forums

Have you checked "Disk Management" to see if Windows is still assigning drive letters for the devices?

Hi Clifford,

Many thanks for the reply, I opened up disk management and plugged in the drive, although the drive is seen there is no drive letter allocated, any ideas how to correct that?

If you right click on the volume that needs a letter assignment you will see available options.

Select "Change Drive Letter and Path" to assign or change a drive letter.
