Updates that should be done immediately (non SP1)

I have a non SP1 disc and would like to know, if I wanted to stay away from
SP1 are there any updates I should do before I go online to do windows
updates.
There was an issue with XP where you had to do an update offline before
anything else and just wondering if that situation is present in non SP1
copy.

I recommend doing the SP1 update. Why would you want to stay away from
it?

Most of the comments about SP1 have been good, but from my reading there
have been some issues with my onboard sound (Asus P5E3 Premium) after SP1.

I just upped the company laptop to sp1.
It seems to be a bit slower but other than that it is
ok and everything works.
It is not on auto and I select what to install,
which is about 90%.

Trouble is Paul SP1 seems to screw my onboard audio, where if you just keep
updating from freesh NON SP1 you get no issues with onboard sound that is
why i don't want to install it.

Maybe reinstall the oem audio drivers after the update?

The problem is, Analog Devices SoundMax is involved. Analog Devices
doesn't offer downloads directly. Asus generally only has downloads for
the era for which the motherboard (Asus P5E3 Premium) was introduced.
The Soundmax drivers aren't regularly updated after that.
I flipped through the ftp.asus.com site, and the best I could find
is something from around 2009. Nothing there was released after W7 SP1.
Inside the driver, you might find a Vista folder.

You could try getting a driver update, from Microsoft, but that's
a long shot.
