I have been Gene. Haven't you been listening? Have anybody disputed any
of my claims? Why hasn't that been Gene? Are you drunk or something?

Oh come on! Lack of dispute is hardly proof, it's just prudent in some
situations.

How dumb can you be? You know how many people in history can do nothing more
than ad hominem attacks?
An ad hominem attack from you, and an indictment of ad hominem attacks
from others, in 103 characters. Excellent!

Oh, I get it - yours wasn't an ad hominem attack, it was an ad
lemmingum attack.

That isn't true Zaphod. I use plenty of facts. You know the thing most
people around here doesn't even bother with.

FACT: I've been using Windows for 18 years and I never had a virus yet.
Although I repair computers owned by others that do get viruses and
clean them out.

FACT: Four years ago Microsoft forced me to stop using security updates
on my netbooks. They sold XP licenses to Asus, knowing full well there
isn't any room for updates.

FACT: Three years ago, no viruses on those netbooks, so I had taken
about 6 other computers here and stopped updating as a test to see if
they would ever pick up viruses. Three years later, no viruses still.

Nothing ad hominem about it Zaphod. But play dumb if you would like. You
still haven't taken part in an intelligent conversation yet.

You rest your case! You are joking right? You haven't said one word
about the topic at hand. No comments about the facts whatsoever. Do you
actually know anything about computers at all? If not, then why are you
commending at all? As your comments has no reference to this topic at
all.

I know I shouldn't do this, but...

Given that you not only used 3 straw man arguments but then followed
with an ad hominem attack all in the same post, there is evidence
enough to convict. (Does what he said actually count as 3 ad hominem
attacks? If so, double hat trick!)

As to your personal attack, from this and other posts you've made it
is evident that I know far more about computers than you ever will. I
make a living fixing messes made by people like you, and by helping
those you've "helped" in the past to understand what good security
practices actually look like and how to implement them.

Ta ta.

Just the opposite Char. I monitor my Internet traffic. And I noticed the
more up-to-date your OS is, the more data mining takes place. Some
argues that it is such things as gadgets checking for updates, Microsoft
checking for pirates, etc. Well whatever, the traffic increases with the
more updated your OS is.

All made possible due to recent updates. As Microsoft can only monitor
and know about your system only if you have installed the latest
updates.

Funny if updates is as important as you lemmings think it is. Then why
does Microsoft has often left a known security hole open for about 2
years or so? That is what bothers me about all of this. If Microsoft
sets such a low priority on security updates, it can't be very
important. And through experimentation and reseach, I found the very
same thing. Apparently Microsoft had know this long before I did.

I have tools which monitor all of these threats. I don't believe you
need to install updates and then close your eyes and believe you are
secure, just like a good lemming.

For example, in the past 4 hours, my computer sent out 2.8MB worth of
data. Which the data contains one website request, email polling, and
newsgroup polling. Yet nothing else has taken place. But since you are a
very good lemming, you probably have no idea what your system is sending
out, do you?

Just the opposite. Remember when Microsoft was ordered to break itself
into pieces for being found as a monopoly? But I believe that lawsuit
was used to scare Microsoft into submission. I never believed that
monopoly claim since we still had Linux and Apple too. And if anybody is
a monopoly, it is Apple. As you can't create a Mac clone without going
to jail or have your bank account wiped out.

Anyway everything suddenly changed for Microsoft and they didn't have to
break up. It seemed clear there was some secret deals made between the
government and Microsoft. And it seems clear that Microsoft has placed
secret backdoors into its updates that the CIA can access.

Sounds good on the surface to go after the bad guys. But it often is
used on the good guys as well. The CIA software based on early versions
of "Promis" was just one we know about.

Inslaw - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Inslaw

Remember the CIA has no oversight. And no other part of government has
any control over what it does, not even the President of the United
States. Remember that JFK had a plan to break the CIA up and was found
dead weeks later. What a coincidence, eh? As the CIA is free to spend as
much as they like and to do what they please. And when found guilty of a
crime in a court of law, they totally blow it off and nothing is ever
done about it. Funny how that works, eh?
I'm sure after that you'll all label Bill as paranoid. But for the record I
also mistrust Microsoft updates, and for a number of reasons Microsoft
themselves.

Rightly or wrongly, I also mistrust the CIA!

Well, that's one of the labels he's earned, sure.

Then really, forget updates, you shouldn't be running Windows at all
(or any other Microsoft products for that matter).

Intelligent people question everything. As we are far better than you
lemmings who don't know any better. ;-)

If Microsoft did it right, they would be a monopoly and we wouldn't need
third party software. ;-)

I believe the time is right for some intelligent person to write a book
about the horrors of updates. As it has been a long time coming.
Rightly or wrongly, I also mistrust the CIA!
The CIA is the fourth branch of government and operates above the law.
Nor do they care about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights either.
And when they have been hauled into court, they totally blow off the
ruling against them. They just don't care as they can do anything they
want to and nobody can stop them.
