Registry adjustment to fix windows sizes.

P

Peter Jason

Every so often I get variations in window sizes in Windows7. Say if I
have a folder on the desktop containing many shortcuts each as an icon
etc, the size of the folder window varies at random as do the icons
which can change to "details" view - also at random.

I vary the windows sizes in the normal way by holding down the shift
key and dragging the window to the desired size. Then I go to the
'organize' button and select a pane option to suit.

But these settings never 'stick' and the next day they have changed.
Sometimes the settings effect the main window in Windows Explorer and
adjustments to this window can effect the smaller shortcut windows
too.

I have tried the "Windows Manager" 3rd-party software but this doesn't
work either.

The following was found to fix windows sizes in XP and I ask if this
will work in Windows 7:

******
1. Start the Registry Editor
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell
\
3. Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New >
DWORD Value
4. Name the new value BagMRU Size
5. Double-click the BagMRU Size value, and set the Base to Decimal
6. Now in the Value data field enter the number of folders for
which Windows should remember the settings (I'd suggest 1,000 or more)
7. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \
ShellNoRoam \
8. Repeat steps 3-6
9. Close the registry editor

If you prefer to remove all the settings Windows has saved so far,
delete the following registry keys:

* HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell \
BagMRU
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell \
Bags
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ ShellNoRoam
\ BagMRU

*******

Can someone tell me if this will work in Windows 7, and if so which
setting corressponds to a particular window size.?

Also, is there some similar arrangement for fixing the icon size and
type?
