I have many 3 1/3 " disks that have photos that I have saved over the years (long ago) would like to save them to a DVD or thumb drive. I purchased an external USB 3 1/2 drive. I see it in explorer, but it says that the disk must be formatted, well I know it was or I would not have been able to save jpg file to it. My PC and Laptop tell me the same thing. Both of my PC's are running Win 7 64 bit. Help!

Old floppy disks can loose their charge and the data be lost; if the data lost is the boot sector it could explain why the disk shows as unformatted. Of course there could be a problem with your new USB drive but it is less likely.

Have you tried multiple disks to see if any of them are recognized?
