Office 2003 Outlook on Win 7

When I was on Win XP I used Outlook Express for e-mail and newsgroups. Now
Win 7 has Live Mail - a few steps backward IMHO. I have a copy of Office
2003 which I have not yet installed on my Win 7 machine. Will Office 2003
work with Win 7 and can I use the Outlook portion of it with Win 7 in place
of Live Mail? If yes, what are the major differences between Outlook and
Outlook Express?

Thanks for any halp.

Yes, Office 2003 works fine on Windows 7.
Yes, Outlook 2003 works fine on Windows 7.
Yes, Outlook is a fine replacement for Outlook Express.

Major differences? Rather than listing the two feature sets, I
recommend trying it on for size and see how well you like it, as
that's really the bottom line. At my house, we've all been using
Outlook 2003 (and the rest of Office 2003) since it first came out.
None of us have any intention of changing anytime soon.

Outlook never had a Newsreader; it called Outlook Express and re-titled it.
Since Windows 7 doesn't have Outlook Express, you won't have a Newsreader.
There are several free ones to choose from, you can even use WLM for its
newsreader capabilities...just use version 14 instead of version 15 (aka
WLM2011).

Actually, no, it does not. Windows 7 comes with *no* e-mail program at
all. Windows Live Mail is a completely separate product that can run
on several versions of Windows. If your Windows 7 computer came with
Windows Live Mail, it's because your vendor elected to install it, not
because it's part of Windows 7.

- a few steps backward IMHO.

That's a matter of taste, but I'm not a Windows Live Mail fan either.

Yes and yes.

If yes, what are the major differences between Outlook and
Outlook Express?

They are very similar in some respects, and completely different in
others. Besides doing e-mail, Outlook is a Personal Information
Manager and does scheduling, task management, etc., none of which
Outlook Express does. Outlook Express was an e-mail client and a
newsreader. Outlook does *not* read newsgroups.

The best way to find out the details of what the differences are is to
install Outlook 2003 and try it yourself.

Personally I greatly prefer Outlook to Outlook Express.

Office programs work fine. The only problem we found was with Outlook
2003 on Vista and Win 7. We had to enter the email password every time
we started Outlook. Other than that it works well.

I'm not seeing that behavior here.

Outlock has no usenet client

Change to Thunderbird and be surprised about all the features.

Do you use Exchange Server? We did at the time. If you don't maybe that's
the difference.

Same here. I don't see that behavior here, either.
