Ordered this for my computer, it plugs in to the IDE drive port on the motherboard.

I'm going to use it for my Paging File instead of setting up a separate partition on a second hard drive.

Let us know what you think of the Flash Module. I'm curious to know about the performance you gain. :)

Never heard of that sort of set-up before. What will the system see it as? another drive?

Is there any information on its read/write performance?

Sounds like a neat idea in theory, but those numbers seem a little on the low side. I like how it plugs into IDE as you say. Neat.

I have my paging file on a separate drive, an HDD though. It's the only way to go about things if a machine has more than one drive imho (meaning off the boot drive with Windows, like you're doing.) I have 2 GB DDR Ram and also Readyboost 1GB stick.

:)

I believe it's fast enough for the Paging File, plus Windows likes it better when the Paging File is off the C drive and on another hard drive, just as you have done.

I've been putting the Paging File on a second hard drive since about 2002 when I read an article about it.

Remember those are the sustained read/write numbers, I'm still searching for the burst speeds, but it's not on Transcend's website.

Once I get the module I'll go ahead and run some tests on it. I'll probably use ATTO Benchmark too.

Those sustained read/write numbers are 2-4x as bad as a regular hard drive.

What a waste of money, the effect of the paging file is minimal anyway if the rest of your hardware is properly configured.

@Thrax - thanks for the feedback. Time will tell though. I know several people who have done this type of configuration and have no issues at all. Besides I like to mess around with new ideas and setups. If it doesn't work out I can always sell it on eBay or Craigslist.

@AK762 - that's your opinion. For me it's not a waste of money and this is the way I desire to configure my system. Plus I do know how to configure hardware. I've been doing it a long time.

Well, I got the FDM yesterday and installed it last night. Runs great and no issues nor is it affecting the speed of my system.

Here's an ATTO Disk Benchmark capture I ran last night:

Here's an HD Tune Pro v4.0.1 Benchmark:

No offense intended but if it doesn't improve the system then, would you really recommend it? I mean reallistically if you paid $50 for absolutely no change at all ... then it was more of an experiment than a value, wouldn't you agree?

TM - I don't take offense at your question. It's perfectly valid. At least you keep it in a "positive tone" which I appreciate. Basically this for me, was to get the Paging File off of a HDD and onto another device.

Yes it was an experiment, (must be some of the German ancestry in me), but it's working out so far.

Plus, since I no longer chase women, drink or generally carouse, computing is my hobby. Plus getting an extra, unexpected $400 back from Uncle Sam helped too. :D

I owed $400 when I filed so I sent it in with my return and for some reason, a month later, they sent me a $400 check back. There was no explaination or anything, just a check. I thought I must have done something wrong, used the wrong tax column or something.

Ah yes! The government in it's infinite wisdom! LOL!
(I think government + infinite wisdom in the same sentence would be an oxymoron!)

At least your $400 better off than when you filed.
