Several suggested Thunderbird so I installed it on my laptop. I
entered all my accounts and was able to get the contacts from Opera.
Now I am putting Thunderbird on my desktop. I see how to export the
contacts from the laptop and import to the desktop.
But how do I get the Account Info copied? (not the eMail, just the
account setup stuff)? Can do? A file to copy?
Tb's new account wizard will likely do it all for you, except the
user/pass. When you create a new mail account Tb wants you to provide
the user and pass first; then it 'derives' guesses at the recommended
mail server from a database and type of account pop/imap and settings
such as port and contacts the email server using your user pass to
finish the configuration.
Personally I would rather do it myself, so I don't give the wizard my
pass, which causes the setup configuration to stop so that I can tweak
the account to my liking.
If you build an account such as a news account from scratch, Tb is
different from most news agents in that it doesn't provide a place in
the account settings for you to put your user/pass. Instead, you
configure the account to always authenticate (when appropriate) and when
Tb accesses the server it activates the password manager, which is
actually a part of preferences/options for you to populate that
configuration and ask Tb to save the authentication info.
I better look for a Thunderbird newsgroup too. Is there a direct one?
Moz has their own server news.mozilla.org port 119 no authentication
group is mozilla.support.thunderbird.
MesNews, your current news agent has some nice features, for example it
properly implements format=flowed, which Tb doesn't do compliantly.
