You didn't get it but that was expected and you met all expectations.
Met your expectations? HA HA HA. That's a funny one. Dismissed.

Releasing software in a Swiss cheeze state is irresponsible.

Windows is *not* unique in this regard - we all need to be running
*supported versions* of *any* OS, to provide for security updates.
That goes for Linux and Mac just as much as Windows.

Brand new computer with win7 ultimate. Been working fine for the past
few weeks till today. In the middle of the afternoon a message popped
up on the screen saying we may be running an invalid copy. This is pure
BS. Anyone else run into this problem?? Suggestions??
If you ran Linux, you would never face that problem.

You were in my kill file, so it appears you've changed your name again,
making you look hypocritical at the least.

Sounds like a personal problem. Better call your psychiatrist and get to
the root of your problem.

Well, billie baby, I've been running Linux for nearly ten years now and
I've NEVER had to 'revalidate' an installation. Hell, I've never had to
'validate' one. Where's the lie in that, billie baby? Must be running on
your own definitions again. Absolutely amazing to me what some folks are
willing to put up with!

Of course you have never had to validate an installation. They give that
SHITTY OS away! LOL! Go play with Ubuntu and watch the spinning cube. That
could keep you busy for hours!

Are you sure this was a Windows 7 Microsoft System Message ??
The Internet is full of sites sticking Pop Ups on screen to con us into
Buying
this or that Virus or Updated Checker.

My Win 7 has sometimes seemed to have "forgotten its registration" .
Do a Restart or just leave it for a bit..
MS is often trying to get us to do there Online Authentication thing ..
the message may just be a Nag...its only saying "MAY Be Running an Invalid
copy"

Yesterday my PC did the same as the original poster's. Microsoft have
stated that occasionally when the system 'thinks' your disk contents have
changed a lot it will require you to verify the copy you have and remake the
file it holds against which it does the check. Doesn't bother me, though it
is ridiculous paranoia. Microsoft was a bit of a cheating company, mucking
up other companies' software to plug its own, while Bill Gates was there,
but since he left it has gone a bit soft in the head. When you buy
software these days, instead of them asking you whether your machine is good
enough to run it, you have to ask them whether the software will work under
Windows 7. Even if it says so on the box, it sometimes doesn't.

However, the message can only be a surprise to people who did not install
and authenticate Windows 7 themselves.

If you don't trust Microsoft, you should switch to a different OS. How
can anyone who doesn't trust Microsoft run Windows??

I doubt if everyone running Windows trusts Microsoft. I use it
because it's the most convenient for me -- I've tried Linux and it
always has some problem with hardware that I can't solve. Mind
you, so did Windows 7 x64, so maybe I'm no further ahead with this
version of Windows than I would be with Linux.

I feel no respect for Microsoft, Al.

I've also tried Linux, I had no problems with hardware but couldn't run
my favourite software programs.

What were your Windows 7x64 problems?

The point is that if Microsoft wanted to own you and exploit all your
most secret stuff, MS would just build an untraceable and unblockable
connection into the 10+ GB of Windows 7 code. It wouldn't have to sneak
it in as an update. The only defense would be a pair of wire cutters
applied to your internet connection. If you run Windows and connect to
the internet, you are trusting Microsoft, whether you like it, or not.
Blocking updates to protect yourself from Microsoft is just silly.

Problem solved. My copy is legal but a MS update can do this. The
cure it to undo the update. All is well now.
