Hi:
Every time Windows 7 coming to the screen, 'Windows Internet Explorer 8" pop-up starting to dominate a whole screen.

I'm very content with Win.7 and no intention to switch to I.E. 8.

How to get rid of this, annoying and nuisance pop-up, 'I.E.8' from the screen permanently?

Thanks for any help on this regard in advance.

Well, not IE8 comes with Win7 so it is not a matter of whether or not you "switch to IE8". That said, IE8 should not, and does not normally start when Windows 7 starts. So something else has caused that happen. Have you looked in your startup folder to ensure it is not listed there?

During the beta phase, there was a law suit either threatened, or actioned, towards MS, by other browser makers. This was particularly in Europe. As a result, European editions, and maybe now others, came with the popup option to install IE8, which should have been the default and installed automatically.
There are one or two ways to stop it. This is my preference.
Open (Type in the start) gpedit.msc.
Click on User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, - Internet Explorer.

Rght click on Prevent performance of First Run Customize settings and then click on Edit. - Click "enabled "and OK.

Dave is there another way for European users with Home Premium?
(W7 H.P. doesn't have the Local Group Policy Editor)

Sure (not my own work courtesy to Technet forum, or maybe others?)

Run the zipped reg (attached). This will create this branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main

Create a REG_DWORD value named DisableFirstRunCustomize
Double-click DisableFirstRunCustomize and set its value data to 1.
Exit.
