How do I remove obsolete entries from the Notification Area Icons window?

I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1, 64-bit.

When I click the up arrow in the Notification Area (System Tray) that
brings up a series of windows offering the option to select what icons
appear on the taskbar, I see an entry for a program that I have
uninstalled.

(I am talking about that window that for each entry offers three
choices: Show icon and notifications; Hide icon and notifications;
Only show notifications.)

This does not appear to hurt anything but I am just wondering how to
remove the entry from there.

Go to control panel/taskbar notification area icons & select "hide icons
& notifications" for the particular program. Alternately, you can right
click on the start orb, select "properties", then "taskbar" tab &
"customize" the notification area.

I think the OP is asking how to remove programs from that list, not
how to adjust icon status. I don't know the answer and don't have any
uninstalled programs still appearing in that list, but it wouldn't
surprise me to learn that a trip into the registry is in order.

Yeah, after re-reading his post, you're probably right. If the program
isn't on the list of all program & features, it will probably require a
registry edit (or try reinstalling & then unistalling again). But if he
doesn't want to do a registry edit, just hide it & forget about it.
