How can I watch these movie files on my computer?

walter

I am using Windows 7 32 bit on a modern HPComputer.

I have made backup copies of several of my movies (which is legal). I copied
the movies to my hard drive, shrunk them and burned them to a dvd. Works
fine.
The folder on the dvd is called Video-TS, containing a number of files with
the suffix of . bup, ifo, vob.

The video dvds play fine on my video player/TV screen, but they do not play
on my computer.

How can I play Video_TS files on my computer?? I am not very tech oriented.

Thanks

Walter

They have to be converted. There are a number of software programs to do
that. Here is one:

No, no. My computer plays DVDs and copies of them just fine.
A DVD has folders named VIDEO_TS (and often AUDIO_TS as well).

From what Walter says it's a question of auto-play for his DVD Drive.

Walter, do the original DVDs play on your computer?

Ed
Thanks, Ed. No, my computer will not play the original DVD, either. I just
realized that it will not play any DVD movie.

When I insert the DVD, instead of bringing up WMP, it brings up my photo
editor (ACDsee), which will not play the movie.

In defaults, I have set Autoplay for DVD Movies: Play DVD movies using WMP.
This function seems to be broken. Reinstall Windows 7?

VLC available at http://www.videolan.org/ will do that. IIRC several players
will open and play a folder.

Not unless you have other things going askew as well!
This looks like a simple case of ACDSee having set as many defaults as
possible to use itself. This is not uncommon practice with both software
vendors and humans generally.
Me, me, me, me!

Control Panel, Autoplay.
DVD movies to be played by ..... (WMP you say?).

Love VLC. It's like "Let Mikey try it. He'll eat anything". For those
old enough to remember.
I haven't run into anything yet that VLC couldn't handle

I can play movies in that format with Windows Media Player. I don't have
any store bought movies, but movies I have recorded off the television
use that Video_TS/Video_RM format, and I can play them, complete with
the recorder menu.
