Converting avi files

S

Syrius

Hi,

I will try to be clear this time. I now have Windows 7 with IE 8.

On my disk, there is an .avi file.

I convert it to dvd using Cyberlink Power2Go.

Then I burn the file.

Everything is good up to that step. The file plays well on my disk.
Picture and sound ok.

But when I insert it in a dvd player, I see the picture on the tv but there
is
no sound.

Tried ConvertXtoDVD with no luck.

Somebody told me I need some codecs but did not mention which ones.

On my old system, winxp, I had no problem.

Could somebody help me please.

Thank you.

Yes there are many forms of AVI. Its not a file format in its self its a
name given to a collection of formats. Two Applications that are free and
can tell you what the format really is and the codec's needed and if there
on your computer are,
Gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
AVI codec http://www.free-codecs.com/download/avicodec.htm

Still iv you re render it and have no sound it either could not add sound or
has used a sound codec that's not available to the dvd player.

When I had WindowsXP SP-2, I never had that problem.

I used to convert any downloaded film, burn and play with the dvd player.

Thank you.

Hi Trev,
It's not a codec problem, since the avi file plays on his computer.
Instead, it's a file conversion problem. During the conversion from
the avi container to the DVD-compliant Mpeg2 format, the audio needs
to be changed to something like AC3 or PCM. AC3 is universally
supported by standalone DVD players and is a compact (size-wise) audio
format, so I recommend that one. The file converter should have taken
care of this automatically, but I'm guessing an option was missed
somewhere prior to starting the conversion.

Hi Char,

As I said, I use CyberlinkPower2Go supplied in Windows7 by Compaq or HP
whatever.

When I selected the avi file, I saw another window with " Burn " at the
bottom. I did not see
any option giving me the opportunity to choose another function.

I did not have this problem with Nero on WinXP.

It does the same thing with ConvertXtoDVD. No sound when using the dvd
player.

When I open Power 2 go It asks what kind or disc do I want to make. If I
chose a Video disc It then asks what type DVD video CD . Then in the DVD
Window there is the configure Icon, hammer and screwdriver, On the video tab
I can set Pal or Ntsc and there is a audio setting at the bottom for Dolby
or LPCM. But if I go for Dolby It wants me to upgrade to the full pack
instead of the bundled with mi Blu-ray player

I see exactly the same thing. The Ntsc and LPCM are the default, I don't
change.

After the process is finished, I can see the film and hear the sound on the
computer...

But not when I use the player to watch the film on the tv...no sound

What audio format is on the DVD that you created? What audio format is
in the AVI that you're using as a source?

Someone else already posted the links to GSpot and avi-codec so I
assume you know by now what you're dealing with.
