Can't View Image Thumbnails in Windows Explorer

D

Dan Kap

Seems that I used to be able to view thumbnail images of, say, .jpg’s when
in Windows Explorer (we’re not talking Internet Explorer here). Now, after a
Windows7 update it seems, my tiles all come up as a useless graphic. I’ve
looked everywhere as to how to get them to all view as an imagine again, and
not just a tile graphic. Driving me crazy, and very inconvenient to have to
click on each graphic individually to find the image(s) I want. Using
Windows7. Thanks for any help!

What's the setting under Tool Bar/ View?

Hi, Ed, and thanks for your interest and reply.

That's the first place I tried to fix the problem. I've tried all eight
Toolbar | Options, and all options produce the same stupid, useless graphic.
I happen to have it on the "Details" option, but as I said, none of them
produce image thumbnails as before.

Again, Thanks.

In Windows Explorer, if you click Organize and choose "Folder and
Search Options", then choose the View tab, the very first option in
the Advanced Settings area should be "Always show icons, never
thumbnails". Make sure that is deselected.

(Why does that setting even exist? Because generating thumbnails is
resource intensive, so they are disabled by default, I believe.)

Next, in the "Change your view" task area, select one of the views
that would allow an icon to be displayed. For example, List and
Details are two views that don't have icons, but many of the other
settings do. Choose one of them and you should see your thumbnails.

Windows Explorer
Tools/Folder Options/View
- Uncheck (or toggle on then off if checked) ' Always show icons, never thumbnails'
- Ensure Windows Explorer (Tools/View) is **not** using -> Small Icon, List, or Details
