Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 ? I personally don't have this product but are you saying Windows warns you it may not be genuine when you go to install it OR that the product gives the error?

If windows gives a warning on install it is likely the certificates are just out-of-date but if you know it's valid software you can just choose the Yes install anyway. If it is the product somehow saying it isn't genuine then I would contact the manufacturer's support.

could you take a screenshot of the error and post it?

you will need to use the "post reply" button and then the paperclip to attach (quick reply does not offer the attachment feature)

as i cant post the screen shot here is what it says:-

The installation package could not be opened
verify the package exists and that you can access it
or contact the vendor to verify this is a valid windows installer package

can anyone help?

What version of software is this? is it designed for Windows 7?

Create a folder C:\install
Copy the install program to that folder
Right-click on the install program and go to the compatibility tab
Check "run as administrator"
IF it is not windows 7 software also set compatibility to "XP, SP3"
apply and run
post results.

an icon next to it? it sounds like you created another file and named it
run as administrator", You need to right-click on the installer executable and select properties. From there you should see the "compatibility" tab.

Did lightroom install successfully? If so, then find the folder where lightroom was installed; that is the executable (may even be more than one) you need to set to compatibility mode.

If your windows updates are up-to-date then no, there are no installer updates.

Are you running the current version of lightroom? If compatibility mode doesn't work then you may need to buy the latest version.

download is completely different from install. I'm not confident we are communicating and that I completely understand the problem or current state of your computer. You do not answer what version of software you have nor mention if you have windows 7 32 or 64-bit OS. It may well just not work in Win7. I'm afraid I do not know what else to suggest besides for you to email the software manufacturer.

Generally Windows itself may complain if it is not genuine. Software doesn't. Contact Adobe or Microsoft depending on where the error comes from. If you have an illegal copy of Windows 7 (not genuine) then I cannot help you.

Why don't you just call Adobe and have them help you.

TM - What's going on here is a "failure to communicate" properly on one party's part.

ok, i am using windows 7 it is an upgrade from vista, it is 32bit

i did a clean reinstall of my system and i was putting my software back on photoshop was no problem and is working fine.
I went to put on lightroom 2 and from then on get the windows error message, all my software is 100% genuine.
i have tried other installs and downloads form different software manufactuers and the same thing happens so its not an adobe issue it is a windows issue.

is it worth doing the clean install again or can i do a repair from the windows 7 disk?
