I recently downloaded Google Chrome to my Dell Dimension 8400 which I've updated with larger hard drive, more memory, new video card, etc., then installed Windows 7 home premium 32 bit. I can't install Chrome for some reason...I get this message:

"Windows cannot access specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item."

What does this mean? I am the only user of this computer and have never seen this message before. Any ideas?

Right-click on the file and choose "run as administrator". See if that works.

Have you installed any other programs successfully?

Thanks for your reply. But I have tried to run as administer with the same results. I have installed many things on this computer without a problem such as this. I also installed Chrome on my HP Pavilion laptop without a problem.
Any other suggestions? Any help appreciated.

I would try downloading chrome again and make sure it is 32-bit version.
