Hi!

Got this XPS15 about a month ago and have (I think) 1 SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION followed by 3 BAD_POOL_CALLER BSODs. I'm not sure what the cause is as they aren't regular. I've mostly just been watching HD video on GOM and 720 youtube.

64bit W7
i5 560M
4GB RAM
640 HD
420M GFX

I've included the CPUZ shots, photos of the first 2 screens I encountered and the 4 .dmp files.

Thank you very much
Piers.

Your crash dumps blame NETw5s64.sys wich is Inlel Wireless WiFi Link Driver :

NETw5s64.sys Mon May 31 15:05:02 2010

This is not the real causer as I ca tell you from my experience, go ahead update drivers, uninstall Avira, and the crashes will still persist.

The real causer is Intel Turbo Boost, disable it.

1. Uninstall Intel Turbo Boost driver
TurboB.sys Mon Nov 02 15:47:34 2009
Impcd.sys Fri Feb 26 18:32:11 2010

2. Ensure that the CPU EIST feature is on, at idle your CPU is supposed to be way lower than 2,8Ghz. How to achieve this? --> In the bios.

3. RAM is currently 1033mhz 7 7 7 20 while it's rated 1333 9-9-9-24.
Make sure it's set the right way.

Steps 2-3 can be replaced by loading bios defaults.

4. Update motherboard driver known as Intel Management Engine

1. I see "Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor" on the program list, is that it or is there more to it as I wonder if there are core files not just the "monitor". Also doesn't removing this slow it down?

2. 2.67 I think? That's what sys properties shows anyway.

3. I haven't changed any BIOS settings, I've never even looked at it.. Dell mess with it?

4. That util doesn't show any option for motherboard for me :|

Thank you for all your help!

Turbo Boost, uninstall whatever is related to it, so these 2 drivers are gone from C:\Windows\system32\drivers:

TurboB.sys Mon Nov 02 15:47:34 2009
Impcd.sys Fri Feb 26 18:32:11 2010

2.67 I think?
Yes, but when the CPU is idling its frequency should go down to ~2Ghz.
Giving up the turbo boost feature should fix it. What you want for now is:

CPU: @ 2GHZ when idle - 2,67GHZ at load.
MEMORY: 1333 9-9-9-24.

Re-attach the CPUZ screenshots with the new settings after uninstalling the turbo boost drivers.

Update Intel.

Uninstalled the Monitor thing, both files still there.
Device manager, uninstalled turbo boost (showed only impcd.sys), and it is still there and so is tubob.sys.
Can I just delete them? No other entries in dev manager or installed programs...

Going to default the bios now!

Uninstall Turbo Boost from Control Panel. Then rename those 2 files to .OLD.

(located at C:\Windows\system32\drivers)

If EIST is speedstep it was on before.
Yes it is, it's long to write each time and my keyboard is broken after my frequent bsod analysis. EIST stasnds for Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology. :) Good if it is on.

Defaulting BIOS seemed to change nothing in CPUZ
Reattach CPU and MEMORY tabs, let me see.

How? It's not the same for all bioses, usually under Dram options. Setup defaults should autoset it right. If not, you need to adjust manually. Take the effort to figure this out or go ahead screenshot the entire bios setup so I could try to figure out how it works in your case.

I did post screenshots of the bios screens near the end of page 1. I'm not being lazy I just can't see any ram options at all there

I don't see anything even close to DRAM in your bios, perhaps somewhere in one of those sub-menus?

If crashes re-occur, contact technical support.
