2 short beeps at random intervals

After using a brand new thumb drive and removing it I noticed very annoying
2 short beeps at random intervals.
Could the thumb drive haven been the culprit?
I looked up the code for 2 short beeps, but that didn't tell me anything and
I couldn't stop it.
I finally went to a previous restore point to alleviate the problem

This time the computer did not beep. But I also used the "safely remove
hardware" function which I never do.
May be that did it, could that be?

That's the purpose of that function "to disconnect further access" to
the USB device.

?Hi, Gun.

I don't know about the beeps.

But you should be able to toggle the "safely remove hardware" message by
using Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc). With that thumb drive plugged in,
right-click on its far left column and choose Properties. You should see a
Policies tab. On this, you can choose to Optimize for Quick removal or for
Better performance. If you check Quick removal, Windows will not use the
write cache; it will write everything to the drive immediately so that there
is no risk of loss from an unexpected removal. So there's no need for the
"safely remove" message.
