Make a Sound When Cap Locks is Hit

S

My fumbling fingers tend to hit the Cap Locks key.

I would like for the computer to make a beep when Cap Locks is hit.

There seems to be a function in Ease of Use Center to do this but I
can't make it work.

In XP there was a known registry change that would do what I want.

Anybody know the Win7 registry change to accomplish this?

Thanks

I tried it on my computer, and it works as advertised using either option.

No, but it is probably the same key/value. Try searching for it in Regedit.

Toggle Keys
under
Make Keyboard Easier To Use
in
Ease of Access Centre
works without a hitch here; and has done for years.

It's the Caps Lock just above left shift that I accidentally hit most often.

Do you by any chance have a Logitech keyboard? I have a Logitech Media
Keyboard 600 (Y-UQ85) and if SetPoint is installed you will hear a sound
when CAPS LOCK is hit. Don't know if this will help you...

I got round it a different way, if it's of any interest to you. I use
AutoHotKey to remap the CapsLock key so that you have to use Shift and
CapsLock together for CapsLock to stay on - and to turn it off again. I
mention it because everyone who tries AutoHotKey finds dozens of other
uses for it - expanding keyboard abbreviations to frequently used words
or signatures that work in any program accounts for many of mine.
Re-programming keys to launch programs is another favourite. It's just
about my only "can't do without" program.

A beep will only tell you that you have already accidentally pressed
CapsLock - this way will stop you from doing it in the first place.

Yes, I have a wireless Logitech keyboard (K520) with Setpoint enabled
too that came with my machine. The keys for Caps Lock, Num Lock and
Scroll Lock, cause a similar beep when pressed to set and emit a lower
frequency beep when toggled to unset. There are no light indications to
show which are set but the Mouse and Keyboard settings icon on the task
bar will tell me when it is moused over as well as the state of the
batteries.

For Vista and Windows 7, go to:

http://www.simplehelp.net/2011/02/20/make-the-caps-lock-key-beep-to-alert-you-when-accidentally-hit/

and follow the instructions about going thru Control Panel.

(There's also a shortcut to set the beep on or off by holding a key
for 5 seconds, but I forget it.

That's exactly what the built-in "Toggle Keys" feature does anyway ...

.... though it doesn't add that.

Lots of good ideas. I managed to make it work but am going to look at
Hot Keys and a total disable since I never use it. The beep is also
fairly soft probably because I use a bluetooth speaker.

Thanks to all.

You might want to try this little program which I have been using
since I started using the laptop a year ago -- my big mitts couldn't
stay away from the caps lock key, and this did the trick.

Incidentally, turning on the sound when the caps lock key is hit is a
help, but not the solution. I prefer usage of the capsunlock program
coupled with the ability to hit shift/capslock to disengage being
locked out of caps lock.
