Caps lock sound wont play?

Brand new Dell XPS 1640 laptop. Win 7 HP. Trying to turn the Caps Lock key
sound on, which I have done in Control Panel > Ease of Access > Toggle Keys,
but when I depress the key I only get a brief message displaying on the LCD
screen, no sound (beep).

I have opened up the On-Screen keyboard and when I mouse click the Caps
Lock on the display, it "clicks" but doesn't not "beep" like the audible
beeps I get when I've done this on other Windows 7 computers.

I guess I'm not sure if it's a Win 7 issue (hard to believe since it works
fine on other PCs). Or a hardware issue with the new Dell laptop. Their
Tech Support had remote access to it for 90 minutes and couldn't get it to
work either.

Tony I didn't realize you could turn on a sound for the Caps key but
just tried it using your directions and I now have a sound for my Caps
key so this probably isn't a W7 issue but instead an issue on your pc.

By the way my pc is also a Dell except it's a desktop.

could it have something to do with your speaker setup?? I have a
desktop with a Logitech surround system and I couldn't hear the beeps
either, until I switched from the default Prologic mode to 6 channel.

I have just set it up on my PC and it worked OK.
As the others have said, it must be a setting on your m/c that needs
to be altered.

Well you pointed me in the right direction it seems. In the Advanced
Properties for speakers I found a drop down menu for sample rate Hz and by
bumping up the rate I now have sound for Caps Lock! Amazing. Dell Tech
Support spent 2 hours with it and never went there.

Thanks for the help!

This worked for me

I can't live without my caps lock sound! Mine wasn't working. Under speaker properties, I clicked "disable sounds blaster enhancement" and it now works just fine. Of course, that means I lose the enhancements, but I type far more than I listen.
