WinZip

Is it me or is there a problem with it? My usual mode d'emploi is to right
click on the file and up pops a menu of which 'add to Winzip' is a choice.
No choice atm though:(

Which version of Win7 are you running - x32 or x64?

You will probably find that the WinZip dll that provides right click
functionality is 32 bit so it won't work in 64 bit Explorer.

Unfortunately I don't think MSFT provide a 32 bit version of Explorer
with Win7-x64. You could down-load a 32 bit Explorer replacement like
FreeCommander or, better, see if WinZip provides a 64 bit version.
You can get Peazip from Sourceforge.net in 64 bit version.

Or 7zip, also free. It works well enough that I don't bother with anything
else, anymore.

WinZip was bought by Corel, never a good sign.

I hope you will get it to work.

I haven't had any interest in WinZip for years...there are more than enough
good freeware compression progs out there.

Hmmm....I have several excellent Corel progs on my system, with no sign of
death imminent! I used to use WordPerfect exclusively, but since I have to
know and use MS Office at work, I've been using whatever they've got current
at work, at home, too. At least I don't have to pay MS for it, anyway.

Try a current version. Winzip 14 works as expected with W7x64.

You may be OK for an upgrade to WinZip 14 ?

"The current version of WinZip has been tested on each of the Windows
operating systems that it supports. This includes 64bit versions when
applicable. Supported operating systems are Windows 2000, Windows XP,
Windows Vista, Windows 7 and the server versions that are related to each"

Corel murdered my favorite photo editing program, PaintShop Pro. Why
does a company spend money to buy a good system and then spend a bunch
more to destroy it?

I use IZArc, another freebie, and am happy with it. I must say, though,
that I use it only for unZipping.

It's called "killing the competition."

Someone else posted this on this thread, but:

Select the files you want to zip.
Right click on them/it.
Select Send To>Compressed (zipped) Folder

Corel, in turn, is owned by Vector Capital, who are only interested in
making money, they don't care a toot about the program, which is very
evident :-(
It is said that 60 million users around the world use Paint Shop Pro, but
Vector Capital is too dumb to bother with them.
Very sad.
Xara had the good sense to pull out of the deal with Corel, as Corel didn't
touch the program for 3 years.

But they _bought_ that competitor and sacrificed it to Adobe's PS Elements.
Yep . . . if I'm McDonalds, I might want to buy up the local burger
joints near mine and close them. Sure, it costs money, but then I own
the market.
