Windows Search Delay Option?

I receive a lot of automated emails as a result of being on a DL; and have Outlook rules to delete those emails. I have recently noticed the Index service takes up a lot of cpu and my disk runs all the time when the automated emails come in.

Does the indexer actually behave this way? That is, indexes mail upon arrival and removes index after email is deleted?

Can the indexer/outlook be setup so that the indexer runs on an interval versus immediately upon email receipt?

I have never tried it myself so I don't know if it is accurate but you may be able to schedule search indexing if THIS is correct.
