Hello folks,

I have done something very stupid and formatted the wrong hard disk when I installed Windows 7. Fortunately I realised this and formatted the correct one and installed Windows 7 to that instead.

Nothing has been touched on the drive after the quick format.

Am I able to get the data back using some recovery tools for Windows 7? Ideally a free tool, as data recovery companies aren't cheap.

Thank you for any help!

I don't think you'll need any tools specific to Windows 7, but there are plenty of free applications that do what you are after. :)

Recuva is the first one that springs to mind : http://www.piriform.com/recuva

However, if you need something more powerful (which you may do in this case), you can give TestDisk a try. That is open source and also free : http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

That was a speedy response! I will try the first suggestion now and see how it works.
