Why isn’t my laptop speaker producing sound even though music is playing?

I’ve noticed that the speaker on my Compaq CQ43 laptop isn’t functioning. The Windows startup sound no longer plays when the laptop turns on, and now there’s no sound coming out even when I increase the volume to 100. What could be causing this issue?
