What were you thinking!

The current version of Agent Ransack came out a year or two ago, and
it's exellent. The previous version was missing some important features
and the interface was not well-designed, IMO. I bet you're remembering
the inferior first version befor trying the revamped new one.
That's what I think, but, in unaccustomed honesty, I can't exclude a
minor touch of PEBCAK from my earlier experience. My first try was long
enough ago to fit your suggested scenario very nicely, but that also
means it's long enough ago for my memory to be faded a bit :)

Give yourself a break - I think it WAS as confusing and hard to use as
you remember. As I recall, the previous free version of Agent Ransack
was not very usable. I kept it around because what few things it could
do were very fast. I think it may have actually been TWO major versions
old, and that they gave it away as a demo for their then current pay
version, which they claimed was better. More recently, their revamped
free version was so improved that I use it as my main search tool. I
still haven't figured out the quirks in Windows 7's search feature, but
now I don't need to!

Whaddaya mean give myself a break? Where's the guilt in that?

In truth, I don't feel at all bad about the whole thing, and now I have
a useful product, so happiness is a warm search engine.

To me the take-away lesson is that when I saw positive comments on
something I had earlier rejected, I was open-minded enough to think that
there might be a reason for those reviews, and I cast my prejudices
away, like a good little boy :)

And once I had been led back to Ransack, I also stopped using a couple
of other programs that didn't serve me so well.
