USB device not recognize

E

Ed Cryer

Greetings fellow group members.

I got a "USB device not recognized" (code 43 in Device Manager) for a
webcam. I tried it in other USB slots, and it was fine. I tried an
external HD in the slot where it failed, and that worked fine. So I
tried the webcam in that slot again, and lo! again it fails.
I uninstalled the unrecognized device, unplugged it, plugged it back in.
All hunkydory now! My conclusion; somehow the driver files had become
corrupted.

Anyway, I thought I might take some action to stop it happening again. I
found this page;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2654149

Sheesh! 6 methods of which I've only done the first.

I was thinking of doing the lot one at a time, but then I thought "This
is the type of problem where experience counts best".
So then, what do the experienced experts here recommend?

every time I boot up, I wind up with four usb devices that "failed to
install drivers".
Really? Then how come they work?

I had to re-install the drivers each time I changed usb slot on
my 7 laptop. Once all 4 slots were "re-driven" it never asked again.

thanks for the clue. I've got one port that refuses to work.
Just how to do you "redrive" ports anyway?

Mine said "drivers not found" when using a new port,
so I reinstalled them. Thats for the cell phone, serial to usb,
and industrial stuff. Laptop has built in cam.

Sounds like it's working (once everything is in sink)

IMHO

Well, my dirty crockery and cutlery is, but not sure how that helps ...
